Talk about a Monday miracle! Nelly Furtado just dropped a surprise (and exceedingly lovely) cover of Calvin Harris’ 2011 smash “Feels So Close.” She transforms the club banger into a pretty acoustic ballad that radiates warmth and intimacy. After four years of silence, it’s a low-key but very welcome return to pop music. “I originally did a live version of this Calvin Harris cover at a radio station in 2012 which was posted on YOUTUBE,” the Canadian singer wrote on Facebook.

“I decided recently to record my own version in the studio and post it exclusively on SPOTIFY so that music fans can enjoy streaming it,” she continued. “I chose SPOTIFY for this as they are very artist friendly and compensate musicians well for their art. I know some people have been using this as a ‘first dance’ wedding song, and summer is here, so enjoy!” I know it’s greedy, but I wish she mentioned or even hinted at a proper comeback.

The 37-year-old has been tinkering away at album number six for a while now, hitting the studio with UK producer Duke Dumont in late 2014. “An interesting one at the moment — we’re doing some stuff in the very early stages — is Nelly Furtado,” he revealed. “I love her. With Nelly Furtado, you could write a hit record that would actually be good.” With ’00s divas like Fergie and Gwen Stefani relaunching this year, what better time for a fully fledged comeback?
