Beyonce Accused Of Copying ‘Lemonade’ Trailer

Weeks after viewers pointed out Beyoncé‘s “Hold Up” video had clear similarities to a 1997 work of visual artist Pipilotti Rist, Lemonade has been hit with another claim of copying — this time in the form of a lawsuit.

Filmmaker Matthew Fulks is suing the star and her label, claiming that the Lemonade trailer copies his 2014 short film “Palinoia,” which also centered on “a tumultuous relationship,” according to TMZ. Fulks says he knows a Senior VP at Columbia saw his film in 2015 and thinks the exec lifted some of the ideas for later use in Lemonade(‘s trailer).

If you have even a remedial knowledge of television or film projects and the process of promoting said media, then you can safely assume that, of all the aspects of Lemonade, the trailer is the thing Beyoncé had the least input on. And not to come off like a member of the hive, but this dude didn’t invent the cliched art film juxtaposition of a calm female VO with flashes of dark imagery and noise. Also, trailers: They tend to have quick cuts and jarring sounds!

Check out the two projects below to see if you think his claim has any merit.
