Celebrities, politicians and everyone in between have been expressing their grief and anger over last weekend’s horrific mass shooting in Orlando in many ways. Included in the conversation were country-pop trio Dixie Chicks, who tweeted on Sunday, “Our hearts and thoughts go out to the friends and families who have lost their loved ones to violence in Orlando this week… It’s so important during these times to stay united as people against this misguided hatred. #Peaceandlovepeaceandlove”

Following that, the Grammy-winning group performed at New York City’s Madison Square Garden last night. During their encore, Natalie Maines stated, “A real asshole did something real bad this week and made us not ready to make nice, but we cannot let the hatred and the anger win out. We can’t leave you guys not ready to make nice.” The band then launched into a performance of their hit “Not Ready To Make Nice.”

Dixie Chicks closed their show with a cover of Ben Harper‘s 2006 Both Sides Of The Gun single “Better Way” — a song that contains the lyrics “reality is sharp, it cuts at me like a knife / everyone I know is in the fight of their life / and I believe in a better way.”

The live cover was dedicated to the Orlando shooting victims, and Dixie Chicks performed it with a rainbow-colored heart, symbolizing LGBT pride, projected behind them. Watch above.
