Today (June 16) is Tupac Shakur‘s birthday, and in celebration, the first trailer of the legendary rapper’s biopic All Eyez on Me has arrived.

The 60-second clip includes scenes of gun violence, police altercations and Pac (played by Demetrius Shipp Jr.) standing shirtless in front of a roaring crowd. The visual is also narrated by Danai Gurira, who will star as the MC’s mom Afeni Shakur. “Like all black men, you have a bull’s-eye on your back,” she says. “They are going to give you the tools you need to destroy yourself. So above all else, to thine own self be true. Now let me see your spirit.”

The film is slated to showcase everything from Tupac’s rise as the King of West Coast Hip-Hop to his untimely death in 1996.
