Hozier’s “Better Love”: Watch The Video For The Booming ‘Legend Of Tarzan’ Song

After teasing his new song “Better Love” yesterday, Hozier‘s latest has premiered in full via its music video. The Irish singer’s voice reverberates over a steadily-building wall of sound that includes thick drum beats, a pronounced bass, guitars, horns, an orchestra and what sounds like a soaring choir — but actually, all the voices are Hozier himself, according to NPR, who interviewed the singer.

“Better Love” is a soundtrack cut from Warner Bros. upcoming adventure film The Legend Of Tarzan (in theaters on July 1), which stars True Blood anti-hero (and Lady Gaga “Paparazzi” video villain) Alexander Skarsgård, Samuel L. Jackson, Margot Robbie, Djimon Hounsou and two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz.

“It’s a rather bombastic score, there’s a lot going on, there’s a lot of drums, highly energetic,” Hozier told NRP for All Songs Considered. “It was important that, coming out of that, whether we move from the song to the score in the film, it’s not completely at odds with that, it’s appropriate. It’s the first time working with orchestral stuff for me, beyond cello and strings. We did a session in Abbey Road for this, which was exciting, it was a dream just to be there and experience that. With the help of Alex Ryan, who is my bass player, he is a fantastic composer and a fantastic arranger so I got together with him and he arranged the orchestral parts which was great.”

As for the song itself, basically, if you thrilled at the drama presented in the 26-year-old’s Grammy-nominated, multi-Platinum breakout “Take Me To Church,” then this one just might push you over the edge.
