Christina Grimmie, YouTube sensation-turned 'The Voice' finalist, was shot dead at age 22.

Alejandro “Jano” Fuentes, who competed on La Voz MexicoThe Voice Mexico), died June 18 after being shot in Chicago. He had just turned 45.

Jano was critically wounded after being ambushed late on June 16. The singer had just gotten into a car with friends, after being out celebrating his birthday, when a gunman approached and told him to get out of the car. Friends of Jano say that when he refused, the gunman shot him three times in the head. He was then transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died late on June 18.

Jano competed on The Voice Mexico in 2011, while being coached by Lucero. He was shot outside Tras Bambalinas School, the Chicago music academy where he was president.

Jano’s death comes not even a week after the shooting death of Voice finalist Christina Grimmie. See Lucero pay tribute to her Voice mentee below.
