Rick Astley’s New Album ’50’ Gets US Release Date, Intimate Shows Also Announced

50, Rick Astley‘s first album of original material to get a UK release in 23 years, hit the top spot in the British crooner’s home country last week. And if you’ve been wondering why only the LP’s two singles (“Keep Singing” and “Angels On My Side”) are available on iTunes and Spotify stateside, it’s because 50 is now set for a proper North American release on October 7 via BMG.

In addition to singing all the songs, Astley wrote, produced and played every instrument featured on 50. The album marks his first time hitting the top of the UK chart since his debut Whenever You Need Somebody reached #1 in 1987.

Here in the States, Whenever You Need Somebody landed at #10. Two of its singles, “Never Gonna Give You Up” and “Together Forever,” topped the Billboard Hot 100. Astley’s last album to get an American release and chart on the Billboard 200 was 1993’s Body & Soul.

A nice bonus for US fans of the soulful singer: He’ll be coming to these shores in August for what a press release notes will be “select intimate rare performances.” The full details are said to be coming “soon.”
