It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Mya, but she couldn’t have picked a better way to end the drought: speaking up about Kesha‘s lawsuit and music industry sexism.

In a recent interview with Vlad TV, the singer gets real about the unglamorous side of the business. “I’m in a business that comes with a lot of bullshit…There can be power plays, and ultimatums given for the people that hold the power,” she said about starting out as an artist. “You have to not be desperate. You have to be willing to say ‘I’m good, fuck you,’ and walk away.”

She called situations like Kesha’s a “living hell” and added: “I find it horrific to have to be bind to negative energies. It’s unfair, whether you’re a male or female. I would definitely have to say those in power, that want to abuse it and get off on abusing it, definitely plot on their prey. And you have to be willing to sacrifice anything that you think you might benefit from, a career, et cetera, and say ‘no.’ Period.”

Watch her whole interview below, with the sexism stuff really getting going at 9:20.
