See 2016’s Top-Selling Albums, Songs And Vinyl So Far
Yesterday Nielsen released its mid-year report on 2016 music consumption in the United States, which showed that streaming is up 59% from this same point (January through June) last year, while overall music sales are down 14% (with digital down 18%, though vinyl is up 12%). So what exactly are the albums and songs being eaten up by the public, you ask?
Unsurprisingly, given its recent nine-week run at the top of the Billboard 200, Drake‘s Views is the most popular album of the first half of the year, having racked up 2.6 million units (streams and sales combined) total, while Adele‘s 25 is the runner-up with 1.74 million units. As far as sales alone, Adele rules with 1.4 million copies of 25 sold, while Drake comes in at #2 with 1.3 million copies of Views. The late Prince is the only artist to have two albums among the year’s Top 10 sellers so far.
When it comes to vinyl sales, David Bowie‘s Blackstar rules with 57,000 copies sold, and Adele is in second place with 25 (36,000).
As for songs, Flo Rida‘s “My House” rules after having sold 1.9 million downloads. Rihanna and Drake’s “Work,” on the other hand, has the most combined audio and video streams, with 511,454,000 total.
