Last night (July 13), Justin Timberlake made his triumphant return to the ESPYs by presenting the 2016 Icon Award to now-retired sport greats Kobe Bryant, Abby Wambach and Peyton Manning.

“Their primes were as great, as legendary as any in history,” said Timberlake, who also hosted the awards show in 2008. “Super Bowl titles, Olympic gold medals, NBA championships, obliterated records – those are the achievements that are supposed to make you immortal.”

“But with these three, the comebacks, the absolute refusal to give into devastating injuries… They just stapled her head,” he continued, commenting on Wambach’s horrible 2010 head injury during a World Cup qualifier game against Mexico. “Sorry, that just hit me.”

After his speech, a montage of the athletes’ greatest moments flashed up on the screen as the singer’s latest hit “Can’t Stop The Feeling” played in the background.

Also remembered was the late professional boxer Muhammad Ali, who was honored by Chance The Rapper and collaborators Donnie Trumpet, Jamila Woods, Peter Cottontale, and Teddy Jackson with a moving original song.

Not to mention, he also danced with Steph Curry.

A glorious evening, indeed.
