Troye Sivan Interview
Troye Sivan talks his debut LP, moving video trilogy and being an out pop star.

The last time I saw (or heard) Ryan Beatty, he was belting out polite teen-pop anthems from debut EP Because Of You on Cody Simpson’s Paradise Tour. A lot has changed since then. For starters, he came out as “a raging homosexual” in June. “It’s taken 20 years of suffocating in the closet for me to become comfortable enough to say it, but now I can finally breathe,” the former YouTube star wrote on Instagram. “I did it!” He then reinvented his sound with a dark electro groove called “Passion,” which hinted at a much edgier direction.

The 20-year-old follows that up with a new track called “Stay Gold,” which takes another detour — this time into The 1975/BØRNS-influenced world of vintage pop/rock. “We got a young face with an old soul, we’re at the right place at the right time and we stay gold,” Ryan sings on the chorus. “It’s a new age but it gets old, so we gotta stay, gotta stay, stay gold.” It’s very catchy and promises good things for his upcoming debut LP.
