Austin Mahone appeases tired fans with free 'This Is Not The album' mixtape.

Is Austin Mahone’s long-overdue debut LP finally back on track? The 20-year-old revealed that he’s releasing two singles next week — Rich Homie Quan-assisted bop “Send It” and a slow jam called “Way Up.” From the snippets, it sounds like he’s well and truly moved on from the pure pop sound of 2014 EP, The Secret. The lyrical content is raunchier and the hip-hop production is edgier. It’s a natural progression that now puts him in direct competition with Justin Bieber and Nick Jonas.

It will be interesting to see how much momentum Austin has lost with the lengthy delay. He seemed to be on the verge of something big when “Mmm Yeah” (the one with Pitbull) went top 50 in 2014, but then his debut album was postponed and, apart from stand-alone single “Dirty Work,” he’s been releasing content via SoundCloud ever since. Listen to previews of Austin’s new singles below. Of the two, “Send It” stands out as having the broader pop appeal.
