Nicki Minaj Is Recording A Pop Album
It’s been an unusually quiet year for Nicki Minaj. Apart from the usual slew of features (Bebe Rexha’s “No Broken Hearts” and Ariana Grande’s “Side To Side”) and a beef with Demi Lovato, the rapper has kept a fairly low profile. It turns out, she’s been hard at work on album four. Which is shaping up to be a pop experiment — at least, according to producer London On Da Track (Young Thug’s “Check” and T.I.’s “About The Money”). “I just got out of the studio with Nicki, we’ve done about three or four records,” the hitmaker told Complex.
“These are more singing records than rap. They’re crossover,” he continued. “It gives me a chance to show my other side. People only know me for that club signature sound, but I really play keys and I’m a musician. I’ve been doing it for a long time.” Nicki previously hinted at a sound overhaul in an interview with Nylon. “I needed time to hear myself think again, because where I left off with The Pinkprint was a little bit emotionally unstable,” she confided. “Now, I want my happiness to be reflected in the new stuff.”
As long as it’s more “The Night Is Still Young” and less the entire Roman Reloaded album, I’m down.
