Green Day just announced their new album Revolution Radio, and with a title like that in their post-American Idiot incarnation, you might expect things to get political ahead of the LP’s October 7 release. And you’d be right. In fact, the promo cycle made a beeline for Godwin’s Law, as frontman Billie Joe Armstrong compared Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to Hitler in a new interview.

“The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are,” Armstrong told Kerrang!, as quoted by NME. “I actually feel bad for them, because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up. They’re pissed off and he’s preyed on their anger. He just said, ‘You have no options and I’m the only one, and I’m going to take care of it myself.’ I mean, that’s fucking Hitler, man!”

Armstrong then put Trump on the same level of Green Day’s old political nemesis, George W. Bush: “I don’t even know how else to explain it…I wish I were over-exaggerating. And sometime maybe I do over-exaggerate with Bush. But with Trump, I just can’t wait ’til he’s gone.”

These comments come a few days after the veteran rocker told Rolling Stone that he didn’t “want to add more of the outrage or anger” to this election cycle.
