De La Soul Drop Usher Collab “Greyhounds”: Listen To The Beautiful, Sprawling Track

Nobody really tells stories anymore in pop and hip hop, so thankfully rap veterans De La Soul met their Kickstarter goal for new album And The Anonymous Nobody… (out August 26), because the trio is back to show everyone how lyrics are done.

Today the group premiered new cut “Greyhounds,” a collaboration with crooner Usher. There are no samples here, or on any of the album’s tracks; at five-and-a-half minutes, “Greyhounds” is a slow burner featuring instrumentation courtesy of “some of LA’s finest studio musicians.”

The song plays out like an epic fable, best heard and heeded on a hazy summer day…like today, perhaps.

Overall, De La Soul raised $600,874 through Kickstarter from 11,169 backers to record And The Anonymous Nobody… Aside from Usher, other collaborators on the LP include 2 Chainz, David Byrne, Justin Hawkins, Jill Scott and Snoop Dogg.
