For the past two years, dance duo The Chainsmokers have been getting closer and closer to topping the Billboard Hot 100, and all it took was releasing a song called, um, “Closer” for them to finally do so.

The New York pair’s breakthrough hit, “#Selfie,” landed at #16 on the main singles chart. Following that, their 2015 ROZES collab, “Roses,” climbed to #6, while the Daya-featuring “Don’t Let Me Down” recently made it to #3. With the latter song still in the Top 10, the Chainsmokers have now bumped Sia and Sean Paul‘s “Cheap Thrills.” off the #1 position with “Closer.”

The song also marks the first chart-topping single for featured vocalist Halsey, whose previous appearances on the Hot 100 came with “New Americana” (#60) and Justin Bieber‘s Purpose track “The Feeling” (#31), which the 21-year-old singer also lent her voice too.

“Closer” is now the 10th single to top the US chart in 2016. And on a total side note, we totally savaged the song upon our Pop Perspective review of it a month ago. Ain’t that a kick in the shorts?

Oh, well — what the hell do we know?
