Carly Rae Jepsen Gets It Very Right With ‘Side B’ Anthem “The One”
Carly Rae Jepsen marked the one-year anniversary of E•MO•TION over the weekend by announcing a reissue called Side B (due August 26). The Canadian pop star is keeping the tracklist under wraps, but she has shared a couple of snippets on Twitter — brand new bop “Higher” and “First Time,” which appeared on a Japan-only remix album. Both tracks are shimmery, ’80s-influenced pop anthems of the highest order. However, she might have outdone herself with “The One.”
“If you want to you can stay the night, I don’t want to be the one (the one),” she chirps over bubblegum synths. “If you want to you can hold me tight, I don’t want to be the one (the one).” Inviting someone over for a one-night stand has never sounded so sweet or innocent! At this point, Side B is shaping up to be a throwback to the heady pure-pop rush of Kiss. Which is fine by me. Listen to a snippet of “The One” below.
