Chvrches Cover Calvin Harris & Rihanna’s “This Is What You Came For”
In addition to being one of the finest synth-pop acts of the 2010s, in their short career Chvrches have also turned out to be a stellar cover band. There’s the Prince cover, the Bauhaus cover, the Bieber cover, even a rendition of the Game Of Thrones theme. Hell, they’ve done enough of these to prompt Stereogum to rank the Scottish trio’s 10 best covers…and that was back in 2014. And now they add the Rihanna and Calvin Harris hit “This Is What You Came For” to their cover legacy.
The band performed it for the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge ahead of this weekend’s Reading and Leeds Festival. Lauren Mayberry really goes for it here, and the guys slow it down into more of a trap-in-space beat.
