Barbra Streisand Tops Album Chart
Barbra Streisand earns her record-breaking 11th number one album with 'Encore.'

Barbra Streisand made chart history earlier this week with Encore, a concept album comprised of duets with movie stars, debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The project not only blocked Britney Spears and Florida Georgia Line from the top spot, it also made history by becoming her 11th chart-topper. That extends her lead over Madonna (she has 8) as the female artist with the most number ones and bumps her to equal third with Bruce Springsteen overall. The only artists with more chart-toppers on the Billboard 200 are The Beatles (19) and Jay Z (13).

The 74-year-old celebrated the news by penning a thank-you note on her website. “When I heard the thrilling news that Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway had gone to #1 in the US, UK and Australia, I thought about the title of Hillary Clinton’s book, It Takes A Village!” Barbra began, before thanking all of her duet partners. “Deepest appreciation to Rob Stringer, Joel Klaiman, Chris Poppe, and everyone at Columbia Records, who’ve given their time and talent to bring this music to the world. I’m very proud to call Columbia ‘home’ for my entire career.”

“I especially want to thank my own tireless team — Marty Erlichman, Jay Landers, Walter Afanasieff, Bill Ross, Dave Reitzas, Ken Sunshine, and Renata Buser for all their talent and dedication,” she continued. “Finally, as always, I want to thank the loyal fans who have continued to support my music through the years. I’m very grateful to all of you.” You can read the full note here and watch Babs sing “Any Moment Now” with Hugh Jackman below.
