Lady Gaga’s new era gained momentum today when the comeback queen announced the official release date of new single, “Perfect Illusion” (September 9). If that wasn’t enough to drive Little Monsters into a frenzy, the 30-year-old also unveiled the cover art. It finds the pop star channeling her inner-rock chick in cut-off jean shorts, a black t-shirt and boots. I know you should never judge a book (or song) by it’s cover, but it looks like she’s toying with rock this time around, which isn’t that much of a stretch when you consider the metal elements on Born This Way.

“The song is about modern ecstasy,” Gaga said of the much-anticipated single at iHeartRadio’s Music Summit in New York in mid-August. “We found our sweet, simple, ragey way of saying it.” That’s about all we about know about the track thus far. Well, apart from the fact that it was co-written/produced by Mark Ronson, Bloodpop and Tame Impala’s in-demand frontman Kevin Parker (he also worked on Rihanna’s ANTI). See the striking cover below.
