Mike Posner Explains How He Wrote Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” On ‘Fallon’: Watch
Mike Posner is the latest singer to feature on the Tonight Show segment “How I Wrote That Song,” a web series that breaks down the writing process of different hit tracks. In this case, it’s the 2012 Justin Bieber smash “Boyfriend,” which Posner co-wrote with Blackbear (real name Matthew Tyler Musto).
According to the “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” singer, the song came from a jam session with Musto one night in L.A. The original lyrics of the track were “Inside of your bedroom/ No one has to know/ Inside of your bedroom/ That’s where we should go,” but Posner revealed that he later changed them because of his affinity towards “if/then” statements. The crooner also discussed his favorite lyrics from the number and his songwriting rituals.
