Celine Dion raised eyebrows in July when she revealed that Pink had written a song for her new album. The unlikely collaboration, a ballad called “Recovering,” arrives today (September 9) and it’s a stripped-back, emotional affair. “Little by little, day by day, one step at a time,” the Canadian songbird sings over a simple piano arrangement. “Shake off the devil, take back my piece of mind.” The track is about overcoming grief (the diva’s husband, Rene Angelil, passed away in January after a long battle with cancer) and slowly moving on with your life.

The 48-year-old sang Pink’s praises when she announced the ballad. “She is phenomenal,” Celine told ET. “I love her for her talent, for her strength, for her focus, the person she is.” The pop icon was clearly touched by the gesture. “At the [BBMAs] when I saw her, I said, ‘For you to take the time to really write a song, to give me a tool, a piece of luggage to help me to move forward to walk to keep going… [thank you].” The ballad is the first taste of the superstar’s upcoming English album. She just released a French-language project called Encore Un Soir, which sold 500,000 copies worldwide in two weeks.
