Selena Gomez Takes The Rest Of 2016 Off
Selena Gomez is taking the rest of 2016 off to cope with Lupus side-effects.

Selena Gomez might be taking a break from the music scene, but the hits keep on coming. The 24-year-old’s perky collaboration with Charlie Puth, “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” lands at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week — Sel’s third top 10 this year and sixth overall. The only other female artist to land a trio of top 10s this year is Rihanna (“Work,” “Needed Me” and “This Is What You Came For”). The impressive chart achievement should cheer up the pop star, who is currently being treated for side effects of Lupus.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” Selena told People in an exclusive statement today (August 30). “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.” In order to combat these issues, she has decided to take an extended break and cancel all existing promotional obligations.

“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off,” the “Hands To Myself” hitmaker continued. “Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.” Selena’s third LP (sixth if you count her output with The Scene) was schedule to drop later this year. It’s now expected to arrive in early 2017.
