Meghan Trainor performed "Better" On 'Jimmy Fallon' and remained upright.

From the preview, it was blindingly obvious that Meghan Trainor was taking a different approach with her “Better” video. After reinventing herself as a saucy vixen in “NO” and serving serious glamor in “Me Too,” the 22-year-old changes direction entirely. Directed by Tim Mattia, the pop star’s latest visual is a gritty saga starring Beau Bridges. He plays Meghan’s alcoholic grandfather and the clip explores their dysfunctional relationship. Featured rapper Yo Gotti makes a cameo as a bartender/family friend, but this is all about showcasing the diva’s versatility.

As much as I love the sugary sweetness of the Title era and the high camp of Thank You, this makes a nice change. Let’s just say she’s come a long way from that “Dear Future Husband” video! Meghan’s sophomore LP surprised some critics with its contemporary pop sound, but fans are well and truly on board. Ricky Reed-produced single “NO” soared to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the catchy follow-up, “Me Too,” made the top 20 and was arguably the catchiest Song Of The Summer. With “Better” already gaining steam at pop radio, it looks like the Grammy winner has another hit on her hands.
