At Idolator, the editors share a passion for high-quality pop. Occasionally, our tastes align. Other times, not so much. So, in the spirit of debate (and online drama), we’ve developed a recurring feature called Pop Perspective. In a nutshell, our editors dissect a particularly noteworthy pop-event, and give it a rating out of 10.
That way you’re getting a full spectrum of views and we can all vent. (It’s cheaper than therapy!) The latest track to be dragged under the Idolator microscope is Tinashe’s slinky bedroom anthem “Company.” Is the track a “2 On”-sized smash or will it fizzle like “Player”? Read our thoughts below.

Just when you thought is was go time to start cooling off for the fall, Tinashe comes along to get things heated up again, and to put an extra bounce and tingle in your no-no place. The wild minx!

Right away I knew this was one of my favorite beats of the year, same way I felt when I first heard “Fly Shit Only” or Kanye’s “Feedback.” It’s like “Pony” for 2016, which is ironic since those synths are basically roided out fireballs from the original Super Mario.
This song is so refreshing, for several reasons: There are no whiffs of any of 2016’s saccharine dance or trap-pop trends, it’s a female pop star doing a nonchalant hit-it-and-quit-it anthem, and it’s a bona fide Good Song to get this Joyride mess in order. Whether it catches fire or not, Tinashe needed this.

What Carl said. (Well, apart from the stuff about Future and Kanye). To be honest, I was starting to lose faith. Tinashe had so much momentum after Aquarius, but then everything went a little sideways. “Player” should not exist at all, while “Superlove” sounds like an unfinished Ciara demo. Tee needed something special to turn the things around and she finds it in “Company.” That beat is brutal and she comes at a familiar subject matter from a bold, new angle. More of this, please!
