Pop Perspective: Fergie's "M.I.L.F. $"
We dissect Fergie's polarizing new single "M.I.L.F. $" in the latest Pop Perspective.

Fergie heralded her return to pop in July with polarizing single “M.I.L.F. $.” The track wasn’t well received at pop radio and drew a mixed response by critics, but it topped the iTunes download chart and debuted at number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100. The star-studded video was even more successful, racking up 104 million views to date. All in all, it’s not a bad start to the Double Dutchess era. The comeback queen is hoping to keep the momentum going with a new remix EP featuring contributions from Dave Aude and Polow Da Don (the song’s producer).

Given the track’s frenetic pace, sing/rapped verses and minimal chorus, it was always going to be hard to transform into traditional club fodder. Some of the DJs stay close to the source material, while others (Nick Talos and Suspect 44) take the song in weird and wonderful new directions. When can we expect something new from The Dutchess? Your guess is as good as mine. Her husband, actor Josh Duhamel, said the album was going to arrive in June but here we are in September with no official release date. Dive into the remixes while we wait for Fergie to plot her next move.
