GIRLI Looks For Love On “Girl I Met On The Internet”

If there is such a thing as the stubborn old pop fan, I’d imagine this demographic would give GIRLI the same type of reception that Lil Yachty gets from golden era hip-hop heads. That older fans of graceful, traditional pop like Adele might not “get” GIRLI’s sneering sing-talking and brittle beats. Or maybe “SexyBack” was the amuse-bouche that got pop listeners ready to fully embrace this kind of abrasive pop music 10 years later.

Either way, GIRLI is firmly at the front of the bratty hyper-pop pack. But the British teen’s latest single “Girl I Met On The Internet” has a slightly softer touch, and shows how smart her music is under the surface.

“I wrote this tune about that illusion you have as a teenager that all the confusion, awkwardness and sadness you have could be solved by finding one person who could be your bae and make everything OK,” she said in the press release. “It’s a naive song about just wanting to meet a girl on the internet and her make everything alright.”

The 8-bit boom-clap beat was produced by Killer B. Hear it below.
