All Will Be Revealed In A Frank Ocean Interview With Zane Lowe

Save for the occasional Tumblr post and social media update from a family member, there’s been silence from the Frank Ocean camp regarding BlondeEndlessBoys Don’t Cry, and his Def Jam departure. Ocean just kinda dumped all this hot #content out into the world and, in a truly rare move, forced people to engage with it and interpret it in their own way. But that could be changing, as a big interview with Zane Lowe is on the horizon.

In an interview with the London Evening Standard, the Beats 1 host recounts how he was given an opportunity to fly out to Japan to meet with Ocean, and only had a few hours to decide even as he was unsure if the interview would actually materialize.

“Deciding within a few hours to jump on a plane for Tokyo to interview Frank Ocean, and getting the go-ahead from him by text — ‘Yeah, do it, get on a plane’ — and that’s all we have,” Lowe told the paper. “We don’t have a time, we don’t have a location and there’s a freedom in that which makes it incredibly exciting to be working in this modern framework.”

It makes sense that Zane’s the one to get a sit-down with Ocean, since they’re both tied to Apple Music. But that’s not the only reason.

“Frank and I have known each other for a few years. So he trusts me enough to get on FaceTime,” Lowe explained. “But if [that interview] doesn’t work and it’s not coming together, there’s that moment where you have to ask yourself: ‘How badly do you want to deliver this for Frank, and for the audience? And is this going to be the best way to do both?’”

So we may soon get an explanation for the staircase.
