Katy Vs. Taylor
Katy Perry is willing to set aside her differences with Taylor Swift — under one condition.

To the surprise of listeners, Calvin Harris sings lead vocals on his new single “My Way.” The mega-selling producer-DJ hasn’t done this since 2014’s “Summer,” as he pointed out during a recent Beats 1 interview with Zane Lowe.

Apparently, though, a former Voice coach convinced Calvin to give singing a second chance. “[There’s] only so far you can go with a voice like mine, and there’s a limit to the range,” he says. “Actually, Pharrell told me something about hitting the notes. Occasionally people try to persuade me to sing again and he was one of those people.”

“He said … it’s not about hitting the notes, it’s about getting the emotion and the feeling and the character across,” Calvin adds. “Once he said that to me, I started looking at myself [and] my voice differently ’cause I was like, ‘Hmm, someone like him picked up on that.'”

Calvin released “My Way,” which isn’t about ex Taylor Swift, on September 16. Watch him talk how Pharrell told him to sing below.
