FLETCHER’s Debut EP Is A Treasure Trove Of Upbeat Pop Anthems

FLETCHER has cornered the market in earthy, uplifting pop since the arrival of “War Paint” in 2015. She followed up the viral hit, which has racked up 20 million+ streams on Spotify, with sing-along anthem “Live Young Die Free” and an upbeat earworm called “Avalanche.” All three songs deliver a dense soundscape with unexpected instruments (think banjos and mandolins) jostling for space among synths. They set the tone for the textured, serotonin-raising pop of the New Jersey singer’s debut EP, Finding Fletcher (out today).

The six-song set obviously includes FLETCHER’s trio of singles as well as recent buzz track “Wasted Youth.” That means we have been treated to two brand new songs. If you’re looking for a self-empowerment anthem that poses difficult questions (“What if Cinderella had to save herself?”), look no further than “Princess.” That sets the bar pretty high, but “Over My Head” — an unusually moody, mellow cut about losing your bearings in a relationship — is more than up to the challenge.
