Overall music sales have been hit and miss this year, depending on the format. But one thing we didn’t see coming: A decades-old tape selling for over $4,000.

Yes, as the catalog of the late Prince continues to be a hot commodity, one of the most sought-after items released by the prolific Purple One is 1995’s The Versace Experience – Prelude 2 Gold. As the title suggests, it was a rare promo item ahead of Prince’s then-forthcoming LP The Gold Experience that, according to The Vinyl Factory, was given to attendees of the Versace collection at Paris Fashion Week over the course of three consecutive days in summer ’95. It was only ever available on tape.

You can check the tracklist for the The Versace Experience here on Discogs, where a copy sold for $4,087 on August 29. It marked the site’s most expensive cassette sale ever.

Warning: If you’ve never visited Discogs, it can be highly addictive.
