The 1975’s Hit “The Sound” Was Almost A One Direction Song

The 1975‘s campaign for sophomore album I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It right out of the gate kicked off with four stellar singles. But one of them, “The Sound” was almost given to One Direction.

Earlier this year, frontman Matt Healy some choice words for 1D stemming from their failed studio session, saying the group never seemed interested in truly collaborating. He ultimately questioned their artistic credibility, and now in a new interview with Q, he sheds more light on that doomed collab, revealing he brought “The Sound” to the table during the session.

“I went into the studio with them for a couple of hours to work on some stuff and, funnily enough, I ended up showing them ‘The Sound’ as a suggestion, but nothing came of it,” he told the mag, according to DIY. “I was asked to do it, so I thought I’d see how it all works but it just didn’t really work very well. It didn’t resonate so I thought I’d stick to my own thing.”

None of the guys from One Direction have commented on the Healy experience yet, probably because they’re all too busy launching solo careers.
