Olivia O'Brien's "Root Beer Float"
The "I Hate U, I Love U" singer shows off her fun side with "Root Beer Float."

Olivia O’Brien ranks as one of year’s break-out pop stars thanks to her feature on gnash’s “I Hate U, I Love U,” which recently peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold platinum. It was only a matter of time before the 16-year-old was snapped up by a major label and her debut solo single, “Trust Issues,” arrived in August via Island Records. That track found the singer/songwriter in a gloomy headspace, but she showed off her versatility and fun side on bouncy Blackbear collab “Root Beer Float.”

The teenager now revisits the emotional anguish of her breakthrough hit. “Find What You’re Looking For” could be a sequel to “I Hate U, I Love U” with its deceptively catchy arrangement and razor-sharp exploration of relationship woes. “I don’t care that you’re not here, won’t wipe my eyes ’cause there’s no tears,” Olivia sings defiantly. “I’m not what you wanted, I’m not what you need. Just not what you wanted and that’s fine with me.” This is the third winner in a row from the talented teen. Now where’s that EP?
