Idolator editors pick and defend their favorite tracks off Lady Gaga's brand new album.

Father John Misty just gave Little Monsters a glimpse into the making of Lady Gaga‘s new album. To celebrate the October 21 release of Joanne, the folksy singer-songwriter shared his demo of ninth track “Come to Mama.”

Both versions feature the same dive bar band instrumentation and reassuring lyrics. Listen closely, though, and you’ll be able to detect how Gaga smoothed over the demo’s edges. Not only did she add backing vocals, but she muted the original’s pounding snares and softened Father John Misty’s language (“But they don’t believe that freedom is a bitch,” he sang, which Gaga changed to, “They all tell you freedom must be bought”), so that the final result is brimming with optimism.

Father John Misty seems happy with how the song turned out. “Congagarats on your release day gagaga and rondo, thanks for the great times,” he said on YouTube, addressing Gaga and Joanne co-producer Mark Ronson.
