Niall Horan’s “This Town” Gets A Melancholy Tiesto Remix

I was going to write that “This Town” isn’t an obvious candidate for a club remix, but that would be a fib. This is a time when nice, acoustic ballads are regularly repurposed for broader commercial appeal. And I’m ok with that. Particularly when the producer in charge shows the song a modicum of respect. Happily, nobody knows their way around a genre-flipping remix like Tiesto (listen to his overhauls of John Legend’s “All Of Me” and Calum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own” for proof) and he rises to the occasion again for Niall Horan.

The Dutch DJ bumps up the speed while retaining the simplicity and moodiness of the original. I’m sure a lot of people will hate it, but this is holds my attention for the full three minutes — a feat the original failed to do. “This Town” is shaping up to be a fairly solid start to Niall’s solo career, having reached the top 10 in the UK, Australia and Ireland. It has peaked at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 thus far and could get a further boost from this remix. Listen below.
