If you’ve been curious as to what ever happened to former American Idol contestant JAX, who placed third in Season 14, then wonder no longer. Today Idolator is premiering “Stars,” the first single from her forthcoming, six-track debut EP, Funny (pre-order here).

The release of music is coming a little later than expected for East Brunswick, New Jersey native JAX, as she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age 20 following her 2015 stint on Idol. Having successfully undergone treatment, JAX began writing new songs like sweeping piano ballad “Stars,” on which she collaborated with founding Hot Chelle Rae member Nash Overstreet.

“‘Stars’ was a turning point in the writing process for me,” JAX tells Idolator. “It really covered what I was going through at the time in my personal life and with my health. Nash Overstreet and Sidnie Tipton really captured my vibe in this session. It really represents finding strength in a time of darkness…that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.”

JAX’s debut EP Funny is due out on January 27, 2017. Catch the tracklist below, and give “Stars” a listen above. If you like what you hear, you can pre-order Funny here.
