Last we heard from Lorde, she was politely imploring fans to get off her case and let her finish her sophomore album, which at that point was “in the production stages.” And now she has commemorated her 20th birthday on Facebook, with a lengthy goodbye to her teen years that included some broad updates on her Pure Heroine follow-up.

On this big entrance into adulthood, she says, “I wrote a record about it, all of it, so much more than what I’ve written down here, and I’m in new york getting it done,” adding, “Writing Pure Heroine was my way of enshrining our teenage glory, putting it up in lights forever so that part of me never dies, and this record – well, this one is about what comes next.”

She went on: “I just need to keep working a while longer to make it as good as it can be. You’ll have to hold on. The big day is not tomorrow, or even next month realistically, but soon…The party is about to start. I am about to show you the new world.” Lorde also said the new album contains the best lyrics she’s ever written and explains that her more reclusive existence over the last few months has “been a motherfucking joy.”
