Listen To Willow Smith’s New Ballad For Post-Election Solace

The 2016 Election cycle has been nauseating to say the least. But Willow Smith is here to provide us all with some solace, releasing a glorious lullaby called “November 9” to help us all heal.

“I wrote this song on the day of the election,” she wrote in the track’s SoundCloud caption. “Peace and revelations to all!”

The number is ethereal and delicate, as Smith sings hopeful lyrics over simple, electric guitar chords. “Baby girl, I know you’re tired / Don’t let the world put out your fire,” she coos. “Take my hand and you will see / Sadness and anger aren’t everything.”  And she’s absolutely right.

What’s more, the 16-year-old singer also recently revealed that her new album is on its way. She sat down with DJ Skee after her set at Odd Future‘s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival this past weekend to talk a little more about what’s in store.

“I originally had 26 songs for the album. Then I looked at it and I said, ‘You know, nowadays the kids have a short attention span, so I think I should go in the teen area.’ So I cut it down to 14,” Smith said in the interview. “I usually don’t plan when I’m going to do certain things, so it’s taking longer than I expected. But it’s coming. It’s done.”
