Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” Ends The Chainsmokers’ 12-Week Reign Atop The Chart
Turns out The Chainsmokers truly did soundtrack the era of Donald Trump The Candidate, and now that the latter is officially the President elect, so ends the 12-week run of “Closer” atop the Billboard Hot 100. The song gives way to #MannequinChallenge sensation “Black Beatles” by another duo, Rae Sremmurd.
“Black Beatles” is now the 10th single to top the Hot 100 in 2016, not counting Adele‘s “Hello,” which was #1 the first three weeks of the year but first hit the top in 2015. Interestingly, all 10 char-topping singles this year have male vocalists, one way or another, in their billing — including Rihanna‘s “Work” (featuring Drake) and Sia‘s “Cheap Thrills” (featuring Sean Paul).
“Black Beatles” is Rae Sremmurd’s highest-charting song, and only Top 10 so far of the pair’s four Top 40 singles. Over on the Billboard 200, the duo’s sophomore LP SremmLife 2 gets a boost this week, as well.
Congrats doods @RaeSremmurd on the #1 we r hooked on dis jam 🔥

Proving that there are no hard feelings, The Chainsmokers tweeted the above note of congrats to the Sremmurd bros this week. Now, wasn’t that a nice thing to do?
