In their second pair-up of the fall season, The Weeknd and Daft Punk go with a much brighter and more chill vibe than the one found on urgent synth odyssey “Starboy.” In fact, with “I Feel It Coming,” we even get to hear those famous robot vocals for the first time since 2014, when French duo Daft Punk made an appearance on Pharrell‘s G I R L cut “Gust Of Wind.” Never has something so mechanical sounded so warm.

“I Feel It Coming” plays like pure Daft Punk, as if it could have been lifted from, say, Discovery. (See in particular: “Digital Love” and “Something About Us.”) And so far The Weeknd hasn’t tossed a throwaway track out there in the lead-up to next week’s Starboy release. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that all 18 songs found on the album make for one of the year’s 11th hour surprises.
