As part of NBC and the TODAY show’s #ShareKindness campaign, Lady Gaga stopped by New York City’s Ali Forney Center, a shelter for homeless LGBT youth, to speak with teens who suffer from mental trauma. She proceeded to give out gifts, talk about the healing powers of meditation and reveal a secret she’s never shared before with the world.

“I told the kids today that I suffer from a mental illness,” she explained in the clip. “I suffer from PTSD. I’ve never told anyone that before, so here we are.”

Back in 2014, Gaga revealed that she was raped at the age of 19, something she only began to overcome thanks to the kindness of others.

“The kindness that’s been shown to me, by doctors as well as my family and my friends, it’s really saved my life,” she said. “I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself, and I’ve found that kindness is the best way.”
