Beyonce’s “Formation” Originally Didn’t Have That Red Lobster Line
Critics may accuse Beyonce of not being a true artist because of how she employs co-writers from all over the industry. But the story behind “Formation,” as told by Mike WiLL Made It, proves how she adds that X factor that turns any given song from good to great.
In a lengthy sit-down interview with Red Bull Music Academy, the super-producer dives deep into how he and the members of Rae Sremmurd, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi, created the Lemonade cultural anthem over several weeks time. He says that in their original version, Slim Jxmmi came up with “If he f— me good, I’ll take his ass to Margiela.” But of course we all know how that turned out: King Bey shouted out to Red Lobster instead, resulting in a 33 percent sales spike.
