Chairlift Announce Breakup
Indie pop duo Chairlift are breaking up. Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wemberly have announced an amicable split, saying they’ll disband after a final string of shows in early 2017.
“It’s been an incredible ten years as a band, and it blows our minds to be able to say that every goal we had when we started recording in 2006 has been accomplished,” they posted in a note on Twitter. “Patrick will be going on to produce records full-time, and Caroline to make music as a solo artist. The two of us are family at this point, and will undoubtedly turn up on each other’s work in the future, but the time has come to take the next step towards where our passion is pulling us.”

Earlier this year Chairlift released their third and final album, Moth. The group first broke through in 2008 as a trio when their song “Bruises” was featured in an iPod Nano commercial, back when that sort of thing could actually help people discover a band. They became a duo in 2010, and in 2013 had another brush with stardom after co-writing “No Angel” on Beyoncé‘s self-titled album. Polachek released a solo album as Ramona Lisa in 2014.
