Well, this was a little unexpected. One of the quirkiest tracks to arrive over the Christmas break is an English language version of Ricky Martin’s global smash “Vente Pa’ Ca.” What’s so odd about it? Well, Maluma’s verses are now sung by Australian balladeer Delta Goodrem — not the first artist you associate with reggaeton. It seems they became friends while filming The Voice Australia (they are both judges on the show) and decided to release a new version for the Oz market. Surprisingly, it kind of works.

“Vente Pa’ Ca” has been one of the biggest Spanish-language hits of 2016 — topping the charts in Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico and Panama. (It had to settle for number 2 in Spain behind Shakira and Carlos Vives’ all-conquering “La Bicicleta”). The video is also a phenomenon, racking up 300 million+ views on YouTube. Time will tell if the song connects in English. If it does, expect another version geared for the US market (someone call Jennifer Lopez!) in the not too distant future. Listen below.
