The Flaming Lips are basically Miley Cyrus‘s side band at this point (remember Dead Petz? No?) so it’s no surprise that she appears on a song on that band’s next album. “We A Family” is off Oczy Mlody, out January 13, but it turns out it was originally meant for her Dead Petz project. Wayne Coyne explains, via Pitchfork:

“at first this song was intended to be part of the Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz record.. Then we (her and us) lost interest in it… It was, back then, very slow and serious… But after speeding it up (a lot) and adding the galloping ‘We A Famly’ sing-a-long bit we thought it was dorky enough and fun enough to present to the world. And… We (Cyrus and us) really do say to each other, all the time, ‘We A Famly.'”

Whatever its original incarnation, they ended up with a spectral ballad that has jolts of bass-heavy electro —and it’s really pretty! Watch the lyric video below.
