Julia Michaels shaped the sound of 2015/2016 with multiple songwriting credits on Selena Gomez’s Revival, Justin Bieber’s Purpose, Britney Spears’ Glory and Gwen Stefani’s This Is What The Truth Feels Like. The 23-year-old is now hoping to make a Sia-like transition to pop stardom with debut single “Issues,” which was reportedly produced by Benny Blanco and Stargate. “I’m so thrilled to announce that my first single ‘Issues’ is coming out next Friday January 13th!!!,” she captioned a brief snippet on Instagram. “Can’t wait for you all to hear it.”

The “Carry Me” singer is said to be one of Republic’s top priorities for 2017. “From the first day I met Julia it was clear that she was not just a writer, but a very unique artist,” Republic Group President Charlie Walk said of the singer/songwriter in October, 2016. “Her trademark vocals, writing prowess, and musical vision puts her in a category all her own. We’re thrilled to be a part of her upcoming journey and to share her art with the world.” Listen to a snippet of the rising star’s major label debut single below.
