“City Of Stars” beat out tunes written by Justin Timberlake, Iggy Pop, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Ryan Tedder to with Best Original Song – Motion Picture at the 74th Golden Globes on Sunday night (January 8), but that was just one of seven wins for movie-musical La La Land during the big Los Angeles award show.

Altogether, the Summit Entertainment/Lionsgate film picked up seven statues: Best Picture – Musical Or Comedy, Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), Best Actress (Emma Stone), Best Director (Damian Chazelle), Best Score, Best Original Song and Best Screenplay. In other words, La La Land won in every category it was nominated in, and set a record for amount of wins. (The tied, prior record holders were One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest in 1975 and Midnight Express in 1979, each with six wins.)

Songwriter Justin Hurwitz penned “City Of Stars” for La La Land along with composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The film also stars Golden Globe- and Academy Award-winning singer John Legend.

During his moving acceptance speech for Best Actor, Gosling said, “You don’t get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain of people, and there’s just no time to thank everyone. I just would like to thank one person properly and say that while I was sining and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer.”

As of its fifth week or release, La La Land has grossed $51 million at the domestic box office, against the film’s $30 million budget. Expect that number to rise as awards season trudges on.
