The Weeknd Blocks The xx From #1 Album Chart Debut

Nearly four-and-a-half years after the release of their last album, The xx have returned with their third outing, I See You. It goes in at #2 on the Billboard 200 this week with a total of 46,000 album units moved (36,000 of which were traditional sales), which marks the UK indie-pop act’s highest chart placing.

Alas, I See You yields the top spot to The Weeknd‘s Starboy, which only sold 13,000 copies — just over one-third of what The xx did — but moved 61,000 equivalent album units once streams were factored in. Sure, okay.

The rest of the Top 10 presents more of the same as we’ve seen in previous weeks, so if movie soundtracks and Broadway cast recordings are your jam, then grab your junk and raise a triumphant fist up high.

5. Bruno Mars, 24K Magic
