Madonna Banned By Texas Radio Station HITS 105 For “Un-American” Women’s March Speech

Last time we checked, freedom of speech was an American right, but apparently not according to Texarkana, Texas’ HITS 105. The classic hits station has banned Madonna from its playlists “indefinitely following the singer’s comments over the weekend” at the Women’s March on Washington D.C.

HITS 105 general manager Terry Thomas stated, via a Facebook post, “Banning all Madonna songs at HITS 105 is not a matter of politics, it’s a matter of patriotism. It just feels wrong to us to be playing Madonna songs and paying her royalties when the artist has shown un-American sentiments.”

During her speech on Saturday at D.C.’s National Mall, Madonna used the F word probably less times than you hear in an average two-day span, and made these controversial comments: “Yes, I’m angry. Yes, I am outraged. Yes, I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House. But I know that this won’t change anything.”

Once the backlash started to brew, Madge took to Instagram to clarify her words: “I do not promote violence and it’s important people hear and understand my speech in it’s entirety rather than one phrase taken wildly out of context. I spoke in metaphor and I shared two ways of looking at things — one was to be hopeful, and one was to feel anger and outrage, which I have personally felt.”

Anyway, sad day for Madonna fans in Texarkana who still listen to terrestrial radio.
