Cyndi Lauper Denounces Madonna’s Women’s March Comments
Madonna made waves at the Women’s March in DC on January 21 when she told the orange king to “suck a dick” and dropped a couple F-bombs on live TV. For many, it was a much-needed blast of cathartic anger, but Madonna took things a step too far when she said she “thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House.” The star took to Instagram to clarify the inflammatory comment, but the controversy hasn’t died down much. Now fellow pop vet Cyndi Lauper has denounced the speech, espousing her take on the “when they go low, we go high” approach.
“I don’t think that it served our purpose. Because anger is not better than clarity and humanity,” she said when asked about Madonna’s speech on Watch What Happens Live. “Yelling…it just jacks people up, it doesn’t communicate any kind of humanity or any kind of story that would open another person’s mind.”
